This bill modifies the process for approving members of commonwealth charter school boards of trustees, which are governing bodies for these public schools that operate independently of traditional school districts. Currently, the appointing official for these board members is generally considered to be the commissioner, but this bill states that for appointments made after its effective date, the appointing official will still be the commissioner, *however*, this appointment will only be considered valid if it receives approval from the school committees of all municipalities from which the charter school draws its students. This provision aims to give local school districts a say in the leadership of charter schools that serve their students.
