This bill directs the State Board of Retirement, a state agency responsible for managing retirement benefits, to provide an increased accidental disability retirement allowance to Howard S. Levine, a former Correction Officer III from Attleboro. This increase is granted notwithstanding existing laws and is intended to be for the public good, recognizing that Mr. Levine sustained injuries on September 3, 1990, while performing his duties, which have permanently incapacitated him from his job. Specifically, he will receive a yearly pension equal to 72% of the compensation he would have earned had he continued in his position, and this allowance will be adjusted to keep pace with any pay increases negotiated by Correction Officer III collective bargaining agreements. Furthermore, if Mr. Levine passes away, his wife, Charlene Ann Levine, will receive an annuity equal to three-fourths of his pension amount as long as she remains unmarried.
