This bill allows the town of Brewster to implement a local option room occupancy excise tax, which is a tax on short-term lodging, at a rate of 6%. This additional tax can be applied to various vacation or leisure accommodations, such as apartments, houses, cottages, condominiums, and time-share units, that are not already taxed under General Laws, chapter 64G. The bill clarifies that this applies to paid occupancies lasting 90 consecutive days or less, excluding those specifically exempted by law, and will take effect once passed.
