This bill proposes to amend existing law to grant concurrent police authority to municipal police departments on Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) properties within their respective municipalities. This means that if a local police department chooses to adopt this provision, they will share law enforcement responsibilities with the state police on most Massport properties, excluding those specifically dedicated to aviation and port operations. To ensure smooth coordination and public safety, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) will be required between the state police and the adopting municipal police department, outlining procedures for police officer assignments, handling emergency calls and dispatch, responding to emergencies, conducting criminal investigations, and making arrests and processing individuals.
