This bill establishes the Harbors and Inland Waters Maintenance Fund, which will be funded by a portion of the fuel excise tax (a tax on fuel) and fees collected by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. Specifically, a small percentage of the fuel excise tax will be directed to this new fund. The fund's purpose is to support the continuous maintenance and cleaning of the Commonwealth's harbors, inland waters, and great ponds, which includes removing sunken or abandoned vessels, derelict piers, and other navigation hazards, as well as maintaining state piers.
