This bill directs the State Board of Retirement to grant an increased accidental disability retirement allowance to Lieutenant John P. Cummings of the Town of Bourne, overriding any existing laws that might prevent this, in recognition of injuries sustained in the line of duty on November 7, 1989, which have permanently incapacitated him from performing his duties as a Correction Officer III. Specifically, Lieutenant Cummings will receive an annual pension equivalent to 72% of the salary he would have earned had he continued in his role, and this allowance will be adjusted to keep pace with any pay increases negotiated by Correction Officer III collective bargaining agreements. Furthermore, upon his death, if his wife, Virginia Cummings, survives him and remains unmarried, she will receive an annuity equal to three-fourths of the pension amount he was receiving at the time of his death.
