Bill Summary

Regarding sharps and medications By Mr. Garballey of Arlington (by request), a petition of Cathy Zolner that medical facilities be responsible for collecting sharps at their locations at no additional cost to the general public. Public Health.

AI Summary

This bill requires all retailers, medical offices, hospitals, veterinarian clinics, and other places that give out "sharps" (which are needles or other sharp medical instruments that can cause injury) to the public to offer a program for collecting and disposing of these sharps at their own locations, without charging the public. Additionally, pharmaceutical manufacturers, meaning companies that make and sell drugs, will be responsible for paying for collection sites specifically for medication waste.
