This bill amends Chapter 33 of the General Laws by adding a new section that grants public employees in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, or in counties, cities, towns, or regional school districts that accept this section, a military leave of absence to attend basic training for the armed forces of the Commonwealth or the United States. During this leave, employees will not lose any seniority or accrued benefits like vacation, sick leave, or personal leave, and will continue to receive their base salary, reduced by any military pay received, excluding overtime or additional compensation. Absences after basic training will be treated as vacation, sick, personal, or unpaid leave. The bill also allows for the expenditure of funds in the current fiscal year for costs incurred in prior fiscal years related to this leave.
