This bill amends Chapter 90 of the general laws to create a new section, Section 14C, which prohibits the operation of any commercial motor vehicle on public roads if it has an accumulation of snow or ice on its roof that is one-quarter of an inch thick or greater. The responsibility for ensuring the removal of this snow and ice before operation rests with both the owner and the operator of the vehicle. Violators will face fines of at least $100 for each offense that does not result in personal injury or property damage, and $500 for offenses that do cause such damage or injury. This measure aims to improve motorist safety by preventing dangerous ice or snow from falling off large commercial vehicles onto other vehicles or the roadway.
