This bill requires health insurance plans, including those offered by the Group Insurance Commission, individual accident and sickness policies, group blanket or general accident and sickness policies, hospital service plans, medical service agreements, and health maintenance contracts, to provide coverage for medically necessary treatments for diseases, illnesses, injuries, or bodily dysfunctions that are required by a student's individualized education program (IEP), individualized family service plan (IFSP), individualized service plan (ISP), or the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act. These plans must offer this coverage without discrimination, meaning it should be treated the same as other covered medical services. The bill aims to ensure that students with special educational needs receive the necessary medical care as outlined in their educational plans, with coverage taking effect on January 1, 2016, for policies issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2015.
