This bill aims to improve financial supports for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by allowing them to access the benefits of an ABLE account, which stands for Achieving a Better Life Experience account, even if they are over the age of 26. ABLE accounts are a type of savings account designed to help individuals with disabilities and their families save money to improve their quality of life, without jeopardizing eligibility for certain public benefits. This change expands the eligibility for these accounts, as established in a previous law from 2014, to include more people with disabilities who may have previously aged out of the opportunity to open one.
