This bill allows government entities to recover the costs of search and rescue operations from the person who was searched for or rescued, or from someone who knowingly provided false information that triggered the operation. These costs can include wages, benefits, equipment, fuel, and any other related expenses. However, reimbursement is only possible if the person for whom the search and rescue was conducted either recklessly or intentionally created the situation requiring the response, or if they negligently operated a vehicle, boat, off-highway recreational vehicle, or aircraft while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and this directly caused the need for the public agency's response.
