This bill amends Chapter 15A of the Massachusetts General Laws to establish a Public Service Scholarship Program, which will provide scholarships to children and widowed spouses of Massachusetts police officers, firefighters, and correction officers who die in the line of duty, including during authorized training. It also extends eligibility to children of prisoners of war or military personnel missing in action whose service is credited to the commonwealth, and to children of veterans who died as a result of their service credited to the commonwealth. These scholarships, awarded by a council based on established guidelines, will be for undergraduate studies at institutions of higher education within the commonwealth and will include a waiver of mandatory fees.
