This bill amends existing law to allow funeral establishments to scatter unclaimed cremated human remains at sea or in designated cemetery areas if the remains are not claimed by a next-of-kin or authorized representative within 12 months of cremation. The bill also requires funeral establishments and cemeteries to maintain permanent records of such dispositions and provides immunity from liability for those who dispose of unclaimed cremated remains in accordance with these provisions, with a special provision for veterans to be interred in a veterans' cemetery.
