This bill proposes to amend Section 7A of Chapter 90 of the General Laws to exempt certain antique automobiles from the annual vehicle safety inspection program. Specifically, antique cars that are 75 years old or older, and whose owners are members of a recognized antique automobile club, would be eligible for this exemption, provided they are actively registered with an antique or year of manufacture registration plate. However, if an exempt antique automobile changes ownership, it will need to undergo a vehicle safety inspection within seven days of being registered by the new owner. The Registrar, which refers to the Registrar of the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles, will be responsible for creating the necessary rules and regulations to implement this exemption.
