This bill allows school nurses who are members of a teacher's, municipal, city of Boston, or state retirement system to receive "creditable service" for prior work experience in the nursing field, which can count towards their retirement benefits. To receive this credit, the school nurse must pay into their retirement system an amount equal to 10 percent of their annual salary when they joined the system for each year of nursing experience they wish to count, plus interest, and must have completed at least ten years of membership service. The maximum creditable service a nurse can receive under this provision is three years. Eligible nurses must apply for this creditable service within ninety days of being notified by their retirement board of their eligibility or, for those already eligible, within ninety days of this act becoming law.
