This bill allows cities, towns, or districts that accept this provision to provide additional compensation to assistant municipal collectors or assistant treasurers who have earned a certification from the Massachusetts Collectors and Treasurers Association. Specifically, if an assistant collector or treasurer obtains a certificate as a "certified Massachusetts municipal assistant collector" or a "certified Massachusetts municipal assistant treasurer" (or a similar certification for district treasurers), they will receive an extra amount equal to 5% of their regular annual salary, capped at $500 per year, in addition to their normal pay. If an individual holds both types of certificates, they will only receive this additional compensation for one. To receive this extra pay, the employee must provide proof of their certification to the relevant local governing body, such as the mayor, board of selectmen, or a district's governing board. This additional compensation will be adjusted proportionally if the employee does not hold the position for a full 12 months, and it will stop if the certification is lost or revoked.
