This bill, further regulating the sale of alcoholic beverages in Somerville, proposes to increase the number of available licenses for establishments selling alcohol. Specifically, it amends a previous act to allow for 27 additional licenses instead of the previously stated 12, and also authorizes the Somerville licensing commission to grant up to 35 new licenses for the sale of all alcoholic beverages to be consumed on-site, and up to 15 new licenses for the sale of wine and malt beverages to be consumed on-site. These new licenses will be marked "nontransferable," meaning they cannot be sold or transferred to another party if the original licensee ceases operations or fails to renew, and will instead revert to the city for reallocation to a new, qualified applicant who must demonstrate good standing with the department of revenue and have paid all applicable taxes. The administrative fees for these new licenses will be the same as for existing licenses of the same type, and all licenses will be subject to city ordinances.
