This bill amends Chapter 255B of the General Laws, which pertains to motor vehicle sales, by introducing a new section that limits the fees a dealer can charge for preparing and processing documents related to a vehicle purchase. Specifically, a dealer can only charge one fee, called the "Document Preparation Service Fee," in addition to any finance charge. This single fee must cover all aspects of document preparation, including sales contracts, financing applications, certificates, title transfers, and vehicle registration. Importantly, dealers are prohibited from presenting this fee as a government-mandated charge, and the total Document Preparation Service Fee cannot exceed $100.00.
