This bill amends the definition of a "Gateway municipality," which is a designation used to identify certain communities for economic development purposes, by changing the criteria for a municipality to qualify. Previously, the definition was not provided in the text, but now it specifies that a Gateway municipality is either a town or city with a population between 35,000 and 250,000, a median household income lower than the state average, and a lower-than-average rate of residents holding a bachelor's degree or higher, or alternatively, a municipality with a population between 65,000 and 250,000 that contains at least three census tracts where 20% or more of residents live in poverty and the median family income is no more than 80% of the statewide median family income. The Secretary of Housing and Economic Development is responsible for designating these municipalities based on these updated criteria.
