This bill seeks to establish retirement parity for long-term public defenders by amending existing law to include certain employees of the Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) in a retirement group that previously only covered assistant district attorneys. Specifically, it proposes to add attorneys, investigators, social workers, and social service advocates of the CPCS who have been employed in these roles for ten years or more to Group Four of paragraph (g) of subdivision two of section three of chapter 32 of the General Laws. This change aims to ensure that these dedicated public service professionals, who often work in challenging and under-resourced environments, receive comparable retirement benefits to their counterparts in the district attorney's office after a decade of service.
