This bill mandates that the director of the internal special audit unit within the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) must conduct a thorough investigation into the financial effects of a specific law passed in 2009, identified as chapter 25 of the acts of 2009. This investigation will examine the total savings achieved so far, what future savings are expected, and how these savings measure up against initial projections made when the 2009 law was enacted. The director is also tasked with proposing ways to enhance future savings and operational efficiency. The findings of this audit must be made public on MassDOT's website and formally submitted to legislative leadership, including the clerks of the House and Senate, the House and Senate Committees on Ways and Means (which oversee state budgets), and the Joint Committee on Transportation, within 90 days of this bill becoming law.
