This bill proposes to amend Chapter 105A of the General Laws, which governs self-service storage facilities, by adding a new section requiring operators of these facilities to maintain a permanent register. This register must record the full name and last known address of every occupant, the unit assigned to them, and the duration of their rental agreement. While occupants are generally responsible for making their own entries, groups of five or more with a common interest may designate one person to do so before occupying a unit. Until this registration is complete, individuals will not be permitted to occupy a unit. The register must be kept for at least one year after the last entry and be available for inspection by licensing authorities, their agents, and the police, with violations punishable by fines or imprisonment.
