This bill proposes to repeal the existing ban on what are commonly referred to as "modern sporting rifles," which are defined in the law as "assault weapons." Specifically, the bill would remove the definition of "assault weapon" from Section 121 of Chapter 140 of the General Laws and also strike a provision from Section 123 of the same chapter that prohibits licensees from selling, leasing, renting, transferring, or delivering any assault weapon or large capacity feeding device that was not legally possessed before September 13, 1994. In essence, this legislation aims to make these types of firearms legal to sell and possess again.
