This bill mandates that the department, working with other agencies that serve children and families, will conduct an annual child assessment as part of a study to understand how the public welfare system affects the health and well-being of children from birth to 18 years old. This assessment will look at things like nutrition (measured by height and weight), birth outcomes (like birth weight), poverty levels, readiness for school, and safety (including how often injuries and hospitalizations occur). The findings will then be reported by April 1st to several legislative committees, including those focused on children, families, disabilities, healthcare financing, and education.
