This bill allows certain public service members with ten or fewer years of creditable service who have been granted an accidental disability retirement to choose to receive a lump sum payment instead of a regular disability allowance. This payment would be equal to the greater of twice the member's annual regular compensation at the time of injury or twice their average annual regular compensation for the 12 months before their retirement became effective. The bill also specifies how to calculate compensation for call firemen or reserve policemen, requires irrevocable written election with spousal consent for married members, and mandates that the Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission provide detailed information about the election. If the member dies after receiving the first payment, their surviving spouse or minor children may continue to receive payments under certain conditions, and these payments will generally last for five years from the retirement effective date.
