This bill expands the requirement for individuals arrested for certain crimes to provide a DNA sample for DNA testing before their release from custody. Specifically, it mandates that anyone arrested for the crime of false public alarm, or any violation of the "September 11th, 2001 Anti-Terrorism Act" (which refers to laws enacted after the 2001 terrorist attacks to combat terrorism), or an attempt to commit either of these offenses, must submit a DNA sample. This requirement also applies to juveniles arrested for acts that, if committed by an adult, would constitute these same offenses. The bill amends existing law that already mandates DNA collection from individuals convicted of or arrested for various serious crimes, including sexual offenses and violent crimes, to ensure a comprehensive DNA database for law enforcement purposes.
