This bill, the Iran Sanctions Relief Oversight Act of 2015, extends the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996, which imposes sanctions on Iran, through December 31, 2026. It also mandates that the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Director of National Intelligence, must regularly report to Congress. These reports will assess the total value of any sanctions relief Iran has received since the Joint Plan of Action, a 2013 agreement between Iran and several world powers, went into effect. The reports will also detail how Iran has used these funds, specifically looking for evidence of support for international terrorism, the Syrian regime under Bashar al-Assad, advancements in nuclear weapons or ballistic missile programs, or human rights abuses against its own people. Furthermore, the Treasury Secretary must report on whether senior Iranian officials have personally benefited from this sanctions relief by diverting funds into their private accounts. The reports will be unclassified but can include a classified annex.
