This bill amends Chapter 90 of the General Laws, which pertains to motor vehicles, by changing penalties and fines associated with certain violations. Specifically, it replaces provisions that previously led to the non-renewal of a driver's license and vehicle registration with an increased fine for violations related to Section 20A and Section 20A½. It also introduces an additional fine of up to $1000 for failing to appear as required by a notice, with the matter being dismissed if this occurs. The bill removes certain paragraphs from Sections 20A and 20A½, and also removes sentences from Section 20C and subsection (d) from Section 20E. Furthermore, it establishes a new Section 20H that allows for a fine of up to $1000 for failing to appear for a notice related to unpaid tolls on the Tobin Bridge, or failing to pay a fine for such violations in a timely manner, with the registrar of motor vehicles to prescribe the format of these notices. Finally, the registrar of motor vehicles is directed to issue regulations to put these changes into effect.
