This bill dissolves the Geriatric Authority of Holyoke, an entity originally created in 1971 to operate nursing homes and other businesses, because it has ceased all operations and no longer serves its intended purpose. The bill specifies that the Authority will wind down its affairs like a corporation, and its founding legislation, along with subsequent amendments, will be repealed. Importantly, the City of Holyoke will not be responsible for any of the Authority's debts or obligations, nor will it be considered the employer of former Authority employees, although these former employees will retain their rights to participate in the state's retirement system (Chapter 32 of the General Laws) and group insurance plan (Chapter 32B of the General Laws), and the City will not be liable for workers' compensation or unemployment compensation for them. The bill will become law once it is officially accepted by the City of Holyoke.
