This bill amends Chapter 6 of the General Laws to require group homes to notify nearby residents and facilities about the admission of certain sex offenders. Specifically, it defines "abutting" as being within 1,000 feet of a group home's property, and "group home" as a licensed halfway house for alcoholics or a residence licensed by the department of mental health. A "sex offender" under this bill is someone designated as Level 2 or Level 3 by the sex offender registry board. Within 48 hours of a Level 2 or Level 3 sex offender being admitted to a group home, the group home owner must inform the owners of any abutting residential homes, daycare facilities, or the principals of any abutting schools, and provide a photograph and description of the offender.
