This bill establishes the Brooke Public Housing Apprenticeship program, named in honor of former U.S. Senator Edward W. Brooke, to address vacant public housing apartments. The program, to be created by the office of housing and economic development and the office of labor and workforce development, will offer apprentice and pre-apprenticeship training. Its goals are to help public housing residents gain education, job skills, and placement assistance for economic self-sufficiency, assist public housing authorities and capital assistance teams in preparing vacant units for occupancy and in maintaining and revitalizing public housing, and ensure the efficient use of public housing funds. The program's development will involve consultation with various stakeholders, including local housing authorities, residents, industry professionals, labor unions, educational institutions, and state agencies, and the office of labor and workforce development is authorized to provide grants for its implementation.
