This bill proposes to allow individuals with intellectual disabilities or autism spectrum disorder to voluntarily request a special designation on their driver's licenses and special identification cards, which are official documents issued by the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) to prove identity and, in the case of driver's licenses, the ability to operate a vehicle. To obtain this designation, an applicant must provide a signed statement from a licensed physician confirming their condition. The bill also allows for designations of hearing or speech impairment and insulin-dependent diabetes to be added to special identification cards.
