This bill, the Inspector General Mandates Reporting Act of 2015, requires each Office of Inspector General (OIG), which are independent offices within government agencies tasked with overseeing and auditing agency programs and operations, to submit a report to the Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE), a coordinating body for all OIGs. This report must list all the specific reporting requirements each OIG must fulfill, and can also suggest which of these requirements should be changed or eliminated. Following receipt of these individual OIG reports, the CIGIE will then have 60 days to compile and submit its own report to Congress. This CIGIE report will identify reporting requirements that are shared across multiple OIGs and those that are unique to each specific OIG, and may also propose recommendations for modifying or repealing reporting mandates. All reports submitted under this act will be unclassified, though they may include a separate classified index for sensitive information.
