This bill requires that the application for a driver's license or identification card include an optional question for veterans to indicate if they want to receive information about federal, state, and local benefits and services available to them as a result of their military service, with this information to be delivered by a third-party provider selected by the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA). The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) will report veteran contact information monthly to the DVA, which will then share it with the third-party provider and local veteran service officers, with strict prohibitions against the third-party provider selling this information and requiring them to maintain its confidentiality. Additionally, the bill establishes a Military and Overseas Voting Assistance Task Force within the Department of State to study and report on the feasibility and security of an online voting system for absent uniformed service members overseas, with the task force to expire after submitting its recommendations by July 1, 2017.
