This bill amends Florida law to require that students be informed in writing, through their student handbook or a similar publication, about their right not to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance, replacing the previous requirement of posting a notice. It also clarifies that a student can be excused from reciting the pledge, including the actions of standing and placing their right hand over their heart, upon a written request from their parent. Furthermore, students who are not participating in the pledge, referred to as "unexcused students," must still show full respect to the flag by standing at attention, with men removing their headdresses unless worn for religious reasons, a requirement that was previously applied to all civilians.
