This bill eliminates the requirement for state residency for most public officers and employees, with limited historic exceptions. Prior to 2011, only the Governor, state legislators, heads of executive departments, and state judges were required to have their principal residence in New Jersey. The 2011 law expanded this residency requirement to all public officers and employees. This bill reverses that change, retaining the residency requirement only for the Governor, state legislators, executive department heads, and state judges, while eliminating it for all other public officers and employees.
