This bill appropriates $950,000 from the state's general fund to the department of information technology for fiscal year 2017 to conduct a comprehensive study on expanding broadband infrastructure across New Mexico. The study will explore various technical, engineering, administrative, financial, and public-private partnership options to create a statewide broadband plan that addresses the current and future needs of businesses. The goal is to identify the most effective strategies for meeting these needs and then to implement adequate broadband service in high-priority, underserved rural areas. Any funds not spent or committed by the end of fiscal year 2017 will be returned to the general fund.
