This bill allows registered voters in New Jersey to automatically receive mail-in ballots for all future elections, not just general elections, by indicating this preference on their application. Previously, voters could opt for mail-in ballots for the remainder of the calendar year or for all future general elections. The bill also clarifies that if a voter who has opted for automatic mail-in ballots for all future elections votes in person using a provisional ballot, they will be removed from the automatic mailing list and must reapply to receive mail-in ballots in the future. Additionally, if a voter who receives automatic mail-in ballots does not vote in the fourth general election after their last vote, county clerks will send a notice to confirm their eligibility, and failure to respond will result in suspension of automatic mail-in ballot delivery until a new application is submitted.
