This bill provides for voluntary contributions by taxpayers on gross income tax returns to support United Way of New Jersey. The bill establishes a special fund in the Department of the Treasury, to be known as the "United Way of New Jersey Fund," to which all donations collected from voluntary contributions are deposited. The bill requires the Legislature to appropriate all funds deposited in the special fund for distribution in equal amounts to each United Way in this State. There are currently 25 United Ways in New Jersey. Each United Way is independent, separately incorporated, and governed by local volunteers.
