This bill amends existing law to change how money collected from motor vehicle taxes is distributed. Currently, these tax receipts, along with any associated interest and penalties, go into a newly created "motor vehicle suspense fund" and then are distributed to the general fund. However, this bill proposes to change that distribution, directing fifty percent of the net receipts to the state road fund and the other fifty percent to the county arterial program of the local governments road fund, starting on July 1, 2018.
