Bill Summary

This bill provides for life imprisonment without eligibility for parole for defendants who are convicted of murdering an emergency responder. Under current law, if a murder victim was a law enforcement officer who was murdered while performing his official duties or was murdered because of his status as a law enforcement officer, the court is required to sentence the person convicted of the murder to a term of life imprisonment, during which the person is not eligible for parole. This bill expands this provision to also make it similarly applicable to defendants who murder emergency responders.

AI Summary

This bill expands the provision that requires a sentence of life imprisonment without parole for defendants convicted of murdering a law enforcement officer to also apply to defendants who murder emergency responders, such as firefighters or emergency medical personnel, while they are performing their official duties or because of their status as an emergency responder.
