This bill establishes the Olmsted Park Improvement Fund, a dedicated fund to support the rehabilitation and improvement of municipal parks designed by Frederick Law Olmsted's firm and officially designated as "Olmsted Parks" by the department. Cities and towns with such parks can apply for grants from this fund, which will be administered by the department and can receive money from public and private sources, including gifts, grants, donations, and interest earned. Importantly, any unspent money in the fund at the end of a fiscal year will not be returned to the general fund but will carry over for use in the next year, and the department will award these grants on a competitive basis to eligible municipalities for projects aimed at improving these historic parks.
