This Joint Resolution designates March of each year as "Fibromuscular Dysplasia Awareness Month" in New Jersey to increase public and medical understanding of Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD), a disease causing abnormal cell growth in artery walls that can lead to serious complications like narrowing, tears, and aneurysms. The resolution highlights that FMD, though often considered rare, may be underdiagnosed, disproportionately affects women, and currently lacks a known cause or cure, often resulting in delayed diagnoses and significant challenges for affected individuals and families. It also acknowledges the efforts of the Fibromuscular Dysplasia Society of America (FMDSA), founded in March, in raising awareness, supporting patients, and funding research, and requests the Governor to annually issue a proclamation encouraging appropriate observances of this month.
