Bill Summary

Relative to licensing and operating requirements of automobile inspection stations

AI Summary

This bill proposes to amend Section 7W of Chapter 90 of the General Laws, which governs automobile inspection stations, by adding a new paragraph that allows the registrar, or the official in charge of vehicle registration, to issue a vehicle inspection station license to any franchised car dealership that meets specific investment criteria. To qualify, a dealership must have invested at least $7,500,000 in building a new facility or renovating an existing one, be properly equipped for inspections according to regulations, and hold a Class 1 license, which is a type of business license. Importantly, any dealership receiving this license under this new provision will be restricted to inspecting only new and used motor vehicles that they intend to sell.
