This bill establishes the position of Architect Laureate for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, an honorary role intended to advocate for and raise awareness about the architecture and architectural history of the state house and other significant public buildings. Biennially, the governor will appoint an Architect Laureate from a list of three nominees submitted by a nominating committee, which will consist of one member from the Senate, one from the House of Representatives, and three appointed by the governor. This committee will receive five nominations from the Massachusetts chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and after reviewing them, will select and submit three qualified nominees to the governor. The Architect Laureate will serve a two-year term, receive no compensation, and will not be considered a state official or employee.
