This bill appropriates $2 million from the general fund to the Children, Youth and Families Department for an ongoing workforce and professional development program to increase the quality of early childhood education for children from birth until kindergarten eligibility. The program will provide retention incentives, continuing education, and professional development for early childhood educators who meet the department's qualifications. The department will contract with a nonprofit entity or entities experienced in promoting quality early childhood education to implement and manage the program. Any unused funds will revert to the general fund at the end of fiscal year 2018.
