This bill appropriates $1 million from the general fund to the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department to fund an ongoing workforce and professional development program for early childhood educators. The program aims to increase the quality of early childhood education for children from birth to the age of eligibility for kindergarten. The funding will be used for workforce retention incentives ($388,500) and continuing education and professional development ($611,500). The department will contract with a nonprofit entity or entities experienced in promoting quality early childhood education to implement and manage the program. Any unused funds will revert to the general fund at the end of the fiscal year.
