This bill creates a new Funeral Service Director license in New Mexico. The key provisions are: 1. To be licensed as a Funeral Service Director, an applicant must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma, complete a 12-month apprenticeship making at least 50 funeral arrangements and directing at least 50 funerals under the supervision of a licensed Funeral Service Practitioner, and not have been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude. 2. A Funeral Service Director is subordinate to a Funeral Service Practitioner and can make arrangements for, direct, and perform other duties related to funerals, committal services, graveside services, and memorial services under the general supervision of a Funeral Service Practitioner, but cannot provide direct disposal services or other services requiring specialized training. 3. Funeral Service Directors must be employed by and receive training at only one establishment, with exceptions allowed by the board under special circumstances. Changes in employment must be reported to the board. 4. Apprentice Funeral Service Directors must report their progress to the board quarterly.
