This bill creates the Florida Criminal Justice Reform Task Force within the legislative branch to conduct a comprehensive review of the state's criminal justice system, court system, and corrections system. The task force is composed of 28 members representing various stakeholders, including legislators, judges, criminal justice professionals, and community representatives. The task force is required to study and evaluate the state's adult criminal justice system using a data-driven approach to develop sentencing and corrections policy recommendations for proposed legislation that will reduce correctional populations, hold offenders accountable more efficiently, and reinvest savings into strategies to decrease recidivism. The task force is required to submit a report of its findings, conclusions, and recommendations to the state legislature by the start of the 2018 regular legislative session, at which point the task force will be dissolved.
